Recently I feel I've made some improvement in my character designing skills, so I've decided to upload a simple picture of Samantha the fox and Paunce the Cat. I'm not 100% happy with this, but that's because I'm still experimenting. In future I'll probably try to make Sammy look slightly more feminine. She's meant to be abit of a tomboy, but I want her to be pretty as well. I'm more or less pleased with Paunce, but in future I'll probably be using more blacks because I want to give her an "inky" look." I'm thinking of giving her some Charles Burns-esque hair because I think pure blacks and whites on her hair will probably suit her better than just a dark shade of grey and some highlights. Constructive criticism and comments are welcome!
Wow! They both look great but samantha looks fantastic. I like her how she is, actually. Gives her a more dynamic personality. I think "pretty" suits paunce a bit more. But really really nice job on everything, the color looks nice too
Wow, its good to see you again on here, man. I have to say I'm highly impressed. You have improved mightily. I love the expression on Paunce's face. Prepare yourself for a creepy tide of furry fans, my friend. lol

Thanks for the kind words Alyssa, your encouragement helps to make the months I put into practicing to improve my artwork worthwhile. I probably couldn't do it without you.

Never stop working, though. If you got here from where you were (which wasn't bad by any means) in only a few months just imagine where you'll be in a year or two.
Makes me regret not sitting down and drawing cartoons every day this semester. My realistic still life drawing has dramatically improved from my classwork but not a whole lot else. Painting class should be more flexible next year so I won't have to put my heart and soul into drawing a teapot or a box for hours at a time
Really, all I've been doing is realism. I only draw cartoons when it's time to upload something. I do have a few books on cartooning and I do use them sometimes, but I find myself using the books on realism far more often. I find the better I get at drawing real things the better I get at drawing cartoons.
