Recently I've gotten pretty far in Cerebus and I read an excellent essay Dave Sim wrote. It seems it's also avaliable online, so I'd like to encouage everyone out there to give it a look over. Sim is a remarkably intelligent man and a superb artist, you can see his work here :icondave-sim:

And the essay: [link]

Well, he's not running his own page. One of his emloyees (ironically a guy I knew in high school) does.

``The greatest mistake you can make is to say that your work is better than a lot of the shit that's out there. No doubt. But being better than shit is not exactly a shining credential.``--Dave Sim.

His artwork is awesome!

I disagree with the part where he said "all sexuality is a matter of choice as it's not necessary," that's a bit distorted. What homosexuals mean by "it's not a choice" is instead of the natural animalistic drive to have sex with or get the feelings or compassion (romantic feelings) for someone of the opposite gender they feel that with someone of the same gender, he sort of misinterpreted/misunderstood the whole "being gay isn't a choice" thing.

Until women are paid equally for the same amount of work I'm not really going to agree that women are to blame for society's problems. And there ARE deadbeat dads who desert their families. Instead of saying that both genders have issues to work out, it sounds like he's trying to pin all the blame on feminists and assuming that all feminists think men are pigs or whatever. Many feminists I know (members of the feminist groups on campus here) are just fighting for equal employment opportunities and equal wages.

Some of his points are valid (in cases where women get the upper hand when they shouldn't, like getting half of their husband's money in a divorce, in order for people to avoid being called sexist or what have you) but the fact that he thinks that as a whole, women are beneath men just blows my mind. It's so very.... 100 years ago. Today, women and men can both have equal financial responsibility instead of the woman cooking/cleaning/taking care of the kids and the man bringing home all the bacon. We've moved far beyond that in society. It'd be like saying that a man shouldn't be nurturing and emotional with his kids because it is beneath him as a man. Why must our genitalia define who we are and what we do with our lives? That sounds sort of primal and animalistic to me :P

reason why i went off cerebus the whole story went tits up after jaka's story anyway
and it became incrisingly bizarre and more a mouthpiece for his own essays and believs then an actual comic book and story
cerebus 300 ended with a whimper
